Rev. Fr. Panagiotis K. Giannakopoulos
Fr. Peter was born in Keratsinion, Piraeus, Greece, on October 10, 1949. He received his High School education at the Ionideios Modern School of Piraeus and upon graduation, on September 13, 1967 he immigrated with his family to the United States. He attended Hellenic College receiving his B.A. with Magna Cum Laude and also was the Valedictorian of his class of 1972. He continued on to the Holy Cross School of Theology and received his M. Div. with Honors in 1975. Upon the recommendation of the Faculty of the School of Theology he received a scholarship to attend the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey in Celigny, Switzerland under the auspices of the World Council of Churches and the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He represented the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America and its Theological School of the Holy Cross in Brookline, MA. Upon his return to the States he continued his pastoral education courses at the Boston Hospital and participated in the D. Min. program at Andover Newton Theological Seminary where he completed all the course requirements.
On Sept. 2, 1979 he married Paula Bounos of Roslindale, MA and on Sept.16, 1979, at the Holy Cross Chapel, was ordained by the late Archbishop + Iakovos of N. & S. America to the holy Diaconate. He was ordained to the holy Priesthood by his Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago on October 13, 1979 and was subsequently assigned as the assistant priest of Holy Trinity Church in Chicago, IL serving that community till July 1, 1981. His second assignment was the St. Sophia, Faith, Hope and Love parish in Elgin, IL where he served until Oct. of 1985 whereupon he returned to the Metropolis of Boston and served the parish of Holy Trinity Church in Fitchburg, MA untill June of 1991. He is currenty the pastor at .St. George Church of Cape Cod. Fr. Panagiotis and Presvytera Paula Giannakopoulos have two children, Simela Nicole and Constantine Nicholas.
